神とは何でしょうか？

　神とはこういうものですと、ひとまとめにしてお見せすることはできません。無限なる存在だからです。いかなる言語も概念も説明図も有限です。小なるものが大なるものを包含することはできません。ただ、宇宙をご覧になれば私のいう大霊がいかなるものかが、いくらかはおわかりになるでしょう。

あくまで自然法則（注）によって規制され、千変万化の現象のすみずみに至るまで配剤が行き届いています。極微の世界から荘厳をきわめた極大の世界に至るまで、生を営み運動し呼吸するもの、要するに宇宙に存在するものすべてが、大自然の法則によってコントロールされています。

法則の支配を受けないものは何一つ存在しません。季節は一つ一つ順を追ってめぐり、地球は地軸に乗って回転し潮は満ち引きを繰り返します。どんな種をまいても芽を出すのは内部にあったものです。本性が出るのです。

法則は絶対です。新しい発見も、いかなるものであろうと、どこで行なわれようと、同じ法則によってコントロールされています。何一つ忘れ去られることはありません。何一つ見落とされることはありません。何一つ無視されることもありません。

　その法則として働いているものは一体何か？無限なる存在です。旧約聖書に出てくる巨人のような人間ではありません。復讐心に満ち、機嫌を損ねると地上に疫病をまき散らすような、そんな気まぐれで憤怒に燃えた神ではありません。歴史と進化のあとをたどれば、人類社会は未開から徐々に向上進化しており、その背後で働いている力が慈愛を志向する性質のものであることがわかります。

ですから、すべてを支配し、すべてを治め、すべてを監督し、しかもすべてのなかに存在する無限なる愛と英知は、みなさんが霊性の進化に伴って徐々に悟っていくものです。それを私は「大霊」と呼んでいるのです。

 　本書を手にされたいきさつは、人それぞれに異なるであろう。第一に考えられるのは、古くからのシルバーバーチの愛読者で、その崇高な英知と人生への霊的洞察から多くを学んでいるので、何の躊躇もなく手にされたというケースである。また、シルバーバーチのメッセージを、地上のみならず、死後の人生の指針としている人から贈られたという方もいるであろう。

　本書は、そういう方を決して裏切らないであろうことを断言しておきたい。もしかしたら書店でふと目にとまったからという方、あるいは新聞広告を見て興味を覚えて買ったという方もいることであろう。いわば偶然のなせるわざであるが、お読みになれば決して偶然ではなく、何らかの形で霊的な導きがあったのだと、ご理解がいくことであろう。

　ともあれ、シルバーバーチの訓えの素晴らしさを、今ここで筆者の拙い筆で改めて宣伝しようとは思わない。それよりも、本書の二人の編纂者の労をねぎらいたい心境である。

すでに発刊された（そして廃刊となった）数多くの霊言集の中から珠玉の「Q＆A」を抜き出して一冊にまとめるというアイデアそのものに敬意を表したい。こういう形で読むと、シルバーバーチが一段と身近に感じられ、その意味の深さを改めて認識することになるであろう。

人生のスピリチュアルな面とサイキックな面に関心を向けながら求道の旅を続けている人々のために、遭遇する疑問への回答を与えてくれる一冊の書を用意してあげたい───これが本書を編纂した理由である。

　また、われわれが「勉強会」を始めた時、何か手ごろなテキストはないものかと話し合ったことがある。スピリチュアリズムの枠内でも起こり得る誤解や勝手な解釈を一掃したもの、というのが第一の条件であったが、そうなると 「シルバーバーチ」 の名で知られている、あの高級霊が遺してくれた宇宙哲学と生きる英知以外にはあり得ないのではないかという結論に達した。

　本書を手にして「まえがき」と「編者まえがき」に目を通した時、シルバーバーチの霊言集がほとんど廃刊となった今でも、英国において「霊的真理普及財団」や「勉強会」という形で脈々と生き続けていることを知ってうれしかった。　

　人間は形而上的にも形而下的にも 「なぜ？」 と問いかけたくなるものにあふれている。
たとえば 「地動説」 という厳然たる事実が常識となるまでに何百年もかかったが、一体なぜ地球が太陽の周りを回転するのかは、いまだに謎である。

まっすぐに進もうとする地球を太陽が引っ張るから、というのは単なる原理的解説であって、では、なぜ地球はまっすぐに進もうとするのかは、天文学でもいまだに謎である。

　こうした 「なぜ？」 と問いかけたくなることは、人生にはいくらでもある。本書は、そのいくつかに納得のいく回答を与えてくれる。かけがえのない英知の泉であるが、シルバーバーチと名のる霊は一体いかなる存在なのであろうか。本書によってはじめてシルバーバーチを知ったという方のために、おおよそのところを紹介しておきたい。

　シルバーバーチというのは、霊媒のモーリス・バーバネルの口を使って、一九二〇年から六〇年間にわたって霊的教訓を語り続けてきた古代霊の仮の名で、今から三〇〇〇年前頃、つまりイエス・キリストより一〇〇〇年も前に地上で生活したということ以外、地上時代の国籍も姓名も地位も不明のままで終わった。

　せめて姓名だけでも教えてくれるよう何度かお願いしたが、そのつど、
「それを知ってどうしようというのですか。人間は名前や肩書きにこだわるからいけないのです。もしも私が歴史上有名な人物だと分かったら、私がこれまで述べてきたことに一段と箔がつくと思われるのでしょうが、それは非常にたちの悪い錯覚です。

　前世で私が王様であろうと召使いであろうと、大富豪であろうと奴隷であろうと、そんなことはどうでもでもよろしい。私の述べていることに、なるほどと納得がいったら真理として信じてください。そんなばかなと思われたら、どうぞ拒否してください。それでいいのです」

　と答えるのが常で、そのうち出席者も聞かなくなってしまった。
　ただ一つだけはっきりしていることは、霊視能力者が描いた肖像画が北米インディアンの姿をしていても、実はそのインディアンがシルバーバーチその人ではないということである。

　インディアンは、いわば霊界の霊媒であって、実際にメッセージを送っているのは高級神霊界の存在で、直接地上の人間に働きかけるには波長が高過ぎるので、その中継役としてインディアンを使っていたのである。近代の科学的霊魂学ともいうべきスピリチュアリズムによって、死後も今と同じ意識をもって生き続けることが明らかとなった。

これを 「個性の死後存続」 と呼び、これは 「地動説」 と同じく科学的事実として、好むと好まざるとにかかわらず、万人が認めざるを得ないものである。

その詳しい解説は第4章にゆずることにして、シルバーバーチが繰り返し説いている特徴的な教訓の一つは、仏教で「生・老・病・死」 を不幸としてとらえているのとは対照的に、そうしたものを体験するところに地上生活の意義があり、いわば魂の肥やしとして前向きにとらえることが、死後の向上につながると説いていることである。

　第６章を 「生・老・病・死・苦──地上人生の意義」 という見出しにしたのは、これがシルバーバーチの教えの圧巻だからである。そこには在来の全ての宗教に見られる 「現世利益」（げんせりやく） 的な気休めの説教はカケラもない。

「事実なのですから、そう述べるしかありません。もしも私が地上生活をらくに生きる方法があるかに説いたら、それは私が高級神霊界からあずかった使命に背いたことになります」 とまで述べているのである。

　シルバーバーチの教説は、その意味で 「大人の人生指導原理」 といえるかも知れない。気休めのありがたい話を好まれる方には厳し過ぎるかもしれない。が、現実界を見れば、気休めやご利益信仰など吹っ飛んでしまうような事象が毎日のように起きている。今後とも、それは変わることはないであろう。

　本書によって生きる勇気を与えられることを願っている。

And there is another limitation depending on the degree of your spiritual and spiritual development. For example, anyone can kill a person. But you won't be able to. The humanity and spirituality that we have built so far does not allow it.


Therefore, when choosing either one, the degree of humanity and spirituality is involved. Here, too, there is a paradox that is common in the universe (which seems to be a contradiction at first glance). Freedom means freedom within a certain limit.
Well, we have to go one step further from here. Because there was a karma problem. This is another important theme that must be taken into consideration. The reason is that there are many people who have included the elimination of karma in their schedule before they are born on the ground. That awareness does not immediately appear on the surface of consciousness, but it also limits free will, whether or not it is conscious.

The patient who visits you is in his or her own spiritual growth stage. You are standing on one step of the ladder of life. The stage at which it is determined determines the quality and quantity of healing power that is poured into the person. That is what I call "karmic debt."

Introduction I said that everything exists within the framework of the law. Everything works on that premise. The "miracle" that humans call does not occur. There is no suspension, change or abolition of the laws of nature. Everything consists of cause and effect. There are restrictions on freedom. If the causal relationship could be canceled, God's justice would be broken.

 　そもそもの目的は、本来の自分を理解することです。そのためには、物的身体の機能と霊としての資質を存分に発揮することが必要です。物的なことに偏って、霊的存在としての義務をおろそかにするのもいけませんが、霊的なことに偏って物的存在としての義務をおろそかにするのも間違いです。両者のバランスをとり、この世にありながら、この世的人間に堕することのないようにすべきです。

　肉体は神の分身である霊の神殿ですから、十分な手入れが必要です。そして成長と進化の過程にある霊は、その肉体を通して、成長と進化のための機会を与えられる必要があります。

　地上生活の目的は、地上を去った霊が次の階層での生活になじめるように、さまざまな体験を積むことです。そこで、まず地球へやってくるのです。地球は、トレーニングセンターです。肉体に宿った霊が、次の次元の生活への装備を提供してくれる教訓を学ぶための学校のようなものです。

　地上生活の目的は、霊性を活気づけることです。そのために、地上界の出来事は二面性と二極性を鮮烈に体験するようになっており、そこに地上生活の地上生活たるゆえんがあるのです。たとえば、善と善でないものが同居しています。これは、私たちの世界にはないことです。高次元の世界には、対照的なものが存在しないのです。

　どういうかたちでもよろしい。摂理の霊的な意味を教えてあげることでも、お腹をすかしている人に食べるものを与えてあげることでも、あるいは暗い思いに沈んでいる人を明るい気持ちにしてあげることでもよろしい。つまりは、その人のためになることであれば、どんなことでもよいのです。

　本書を手にして「まえがき」と「編者まえがき」に目を通した時、シルバーバーチの霊言集がほとんど廃刊となった今でも、英国において「霊的真理普及財団」や「勉強会」という形で脈々と生き続けていることを知ってうれしかった。　

　人間は形而上的にも形而下的にも 「なぜ？」 と問いかけたくなるものにあふれている。
たとえば 「地動説」 という厳然たる事実が常識となるまでに何百年もかかったが、一体なぜ地球が太陽の周りを回転するのかは、いまだに謎である。

　シルバーバーチというのは、霊媒のモーリス・バーバネルの口を使って、一九二〇年から六〇年間にわたって霊的教訓を語り続けてきた古代霊の仮の名で、今から三〇〇〇年前頃、つまりイエス・キリストより一〇〇〇年も前に地上で生活したということ以外、地上時代の国籍も姓名も地位も不明のままで終わった。

　せめて姓名だけでも教えてくれるよう何度かお願いしたが、そのつど、
「それを知ってどうしようというのですか。人間は名前や肩書きにこだわるからいけないのです。もしも私が歴史上有名な人物だと分かったら、私がこれまで述べてきたことに一段と箔がつくと思われるのでしょうが、それは非常にたちの悪い錯覚です。

　と答えるのが常で、そのうち出席者も聞かなくなってしまった。
　ただ一つだけはっきりしていることは、霊視能力者が描いた肖像画が北米インディアンの姿をしていても、実はそのインディアンがシルバーバーチその人ではないということである。

　インディアンは、いわば霊界の霊媒であって、実際にメッセージを送っているのは高級神霊界の存在で、直接地上の人間に働きかけるには波長が高過ぎるので、その中継役としてインディアンを使っていたのである。近代の科学的霊魂学ともいうべきスピリチュアリズムによって、死後も今と同じ意識をもって生き続けることが明らかとなった。

「事実なのですから、そう述べるしかありません。もしも私が地上生活をらくに生きる方法があるかに説いたら、それは私が高級神霊界からあずかった使命に背いたことになります」 とまで述べているのである。

　シルバーバーチの教説は、その意味で 「大人の人生指導原理」 といえるかも知れない。気休めのありがたい話を好まれる方には厳し過ぎるかもしれない。が、現実界を見れば、気休めやご利益信仰など吹っ飛んでしまうような事象が毎日のように起きている。今後とも、それは変わることはないであろう。

　本書によって生きる勇気を与えられることを願っている。
