シアトルの冬 動物愛護 the animal welfare

訳者注───このあと動物愛護運動に夫婦ともども生活をささげて最近奥さんに先立たれた人との対話が紹介されているが、私の推察ではこの人は間違いなく英国のテレビ番組≪サファリ≫の制作者デニス氏で、奥さんが健在のころに一度夫婦して招かれて、シルバーバーチから賛辞を受けた時の様子が、ステラ・ストーム女史が編纂したPhilosophy of Silver Birch by Stella Storm に出ている。これは次の第九巻に予定しているが、理解の便を考えて、その部分をあえてここで紹介しておくことにした。


　「あなた方（Michael ＆ Armand Denis） は肉体に閉じ込められているために、ご自分がどれほど立派な仕事をされたかご存じないでしょう。お二人は骨の折れるこの分野を開拓され、人間と動物との間に同類性があり従ってお互いの敬意と寛容と慈しみが進化の厳律であることを見事に立証されました。

　大自然を根こそぎにし、荒廃させ、動物を殺したり（実験で）片端にしたりするのは、人間のすべきことではありません。強き者が弱き者を助け、知識あるものが無知なる者を救い、陽の当たる場所にいる者が片隅の暗闇を少しでもなくすための努力をすることによって、自然界の全存在が調和のある生命活動を営むことこそ、本来の姿なのです。

　その点あなた方は大自然の大機構の中での動物の存在意義を根気よく紹介され、正しい知識の普及によく努力されました。それこそ人間の大切な役割の一つなのです。地上の難題や不幸や悲劇の多くが人間の愚かさと自惚れによって惹き起こされていることは、残念ながら真実なのです。

　慈しみの心が大切です。寛容の心を持たなくてはいけません。自然破壊ではなく、自然との調和こそ理想とすべきです。人間が争いを起こすとき、その相手が人間どうしであっても動物であっても、結局は人間自身の進化を遅らせることになるのです。人間が動物を敵にまわしているうちは自然界に平和は訪れません。

平和は友好と一致と協調の中にこそ生まれます。それなくしては地上は苦痛の癒える時がなく、人間が無用の干渉を続けるかぎり災害は無くなりません。人間には神の創造の原理が宿っているのです。だからこそ人間が大自然と一体となった生活を営むとき地上に平和が訪れ、神の国が実現する基礎ができるのです。

　残酷は残酷を呼び、争いは争いを生みます。が、愛は愛を呼び、慈しみは慈しみを生みます。人間が憎しみと破壊の生活をすれば、人間みずからが破滅の道をたどることになります。ことわざにも〝風を蒔いてつむじ風を刈る〟と言います。悪いことをすればその何倍もの罰を被ることになるのです。

　何ものにも憎しみを抱かず、すべてに、地上のすべての生命あるものに愛の心で接することです。それが地上の限りない創造進化を促進するゆえんとなります。それは、人間がその一部を占めている進化の機構の中で為しうる最大の貢献です。

　挫けてはなりません。あなた方の仕事に対して人はいろいろと言うことでしょう。無理解、無知、他愛ない愚かさ、間抜けな愚かさ、心無い誹謗、等々。これには悪意から出るものもありましょうし、何も知らずに、ただ出まかせに言う場合もあるでしょう。それに対するあなた方の武器は、ほかならぬ霊的知識であらねばなりません 。

所詮はそれがすべての人間の生きる目的なのです。霊的知識を理解すれば、あとは欲の皮さえ突っ張らなければ、神の恩恵に浴することができるのです。

　お二人は多くの才能をお持ちです。まだまだ動物のために為すべき仕事が山ほど残っております。地上の生命は全体として一つのまとまった生命体系を維持しているのであり、そのうちのどれ一つを欠いてもいけません。お二人が生涯を傾けておられる動物は、究極的には人間が責任を負うべき存在です。

なぜならば、人間は動物とともに進化の道を歩むべき宿命にあるからです。ともに手を取り合って歩まねばならないのです。動物は人間の貪欲や道楽の対象ではないのです。動物も進化しているのです。

　自然界の生命はすべてが複雑にからみ合っており、人間の責任は、人間どうしを超えて草原の動物や空の小鳥にまで及んでいます。抵抗するすべを知らない、か弱い存在に苦痛を与えることは、ぜひとも阻止しなくてはなりません。

　装飾品にするために動物を殺すことは、神は許しません。あらゆる残虐行為、とりわけ無意味な殺生は絶対に止めなくてはなりません。物言わぬ存在の権利を守る仕事にたずさわる者は、常にそうした人間としての道徳的原理に訴えながら闘わなくてはいけません。

小鳥や動物に対して平気で残酷なことをする者は、人間に対しても平気で残酷なことをするものです。

　動物への残忍な行為を見て心を痛め涙を流す人は、いつかはきっと勝つのだという信念のもとに、勇気をもって動物愛護のための仕事を続けてください。多くの残酷な行為が、無知であるがゆえに横行しています。それらは、霊的知識を知って目が覚めればたちどころに消えてしまうのです。

また、一つの霊的知識に目覚めると、その知識のもつ別の意義にも目覚めてくるものです。その時こそ魂が真の自由への道を歩み始めた時でもあるのです。

　動物と人間とは、進化のある段階でどうしても別れ別れにならざるを得なくなります。地上の年数にして何万年にもなるかも知れませんが、動物と人間とでは霊的進化のスピードが違います。より大きな光を求めて絶え間なく成長していく人間の魂についていけなくて、動物は置き去りにされることになります。

　いったん物質のベールをくぐり抜けて霊界入りし霊的生活環境に慣れてくると、つまりあなたを地上に縛りつけていた絆が切れたことを認識すると、進歩しようとする欲求、内部に渦巻く神性を開発しようとする欲求が加速されます。いつどこにいても、修行次第で自分をいっそう役立てることを可能にしてくれる資質を開発しようとします。

その霊的開発の分野において高く昇れば昇るほど、動物はついていけなくなります。そして、死後もなお炎を燃やしつづけた愛が次第に衰えはじめます。やがて炎がチラチラと明滅しはじめ、最後は同じ種族の類魂の中へ融合していきます。

　創造物全体の進化を支配する総合的機構は一つあるだけですが、それぞれの顕現の形態にそれなりの異なった進化のコースがあります。人間が成就している個別的意識をもつに至っていない動物には、種族全体としての類魂があります。もっとも、同じ種族の動物でも人間との接触を通じて個別化を促進されて、人間に似た形態の個別的意識をもつに至っているのもいます。

　全体としての類魂もいつまでも同じ状態にあるのではなく、つねに進化しております。高級界の神霊が人間に対する責任を自覚しているごとくに人間が地上の全創造物に対する責任を自覚するようになれば、動物の進化が加速され個別化が促進されます。

しかし、人間との関係がよほど接近しないかぎり、ある程度まで同一方向ではあっても、進むコースは別々です。進化が進むにつれて類魂の数は少なくなり、個別化された魂が増えてまいります。

　全生命を通じて〝霊〟という共通の近親関係が存在します。生命のあるところには必ず霊が存在します。人間の残忍性は動物の進化を遅らせるという形で反映します。

それは人間の野獣性がみずからの進化を遅らせるのと同じことです。そのプロセスは同じです。全生命は協調、すなわちそれぞれが自分を役立てるということによって互いの進化に貢献し合うように意図されているのです。

　何ごとにつけ動機が重大な要素となります。愛する動物が手の施しようのない状態となっている時、これ以上苦しませるのが忍びなくて地上生命に終止符を打たせる処置を取るのであれば、その動機は正当です。

しかし動物の生得の権利を完全に無視して一かけらの同情心もなしに屠殺するとなると、その動機は利己的です。それは人間自身にとっても動物にとっても良かろうはずはありません。

そこで、殺された動物の霊を何とかしてやらねばならなくなります。人間の場合、死産児や夭折した子の霊は地上で味わうべきであったものについて埋め合わせが行われますが、動物の場合も同じで、地上で得そこなったものについて埋め合わせがあります。

　あなた方はみずからの意志を行使できない生命───その愛情と忠誠心と信頼と献身とが不幸にして、自分たちのしていることがいかに間違ったことであるかを知らない人間による情け容赦ない残虐行為によって皮肉な報復を受けている動物の保護のために献身しておられます。

動物虐待は人間が気取って〝文明〟などと呼んでいるものにとっての大きな汚点であり、邪悪な汚辱です。

　西洋人は私たちレッドインディアンを野蛮人と呼びますが、人間と同じ霊によって生命を与えられ同じ進化の道を歩みながら、一方的に人間によって略奪され苦しめられてきた動物に対するこれまでの人間の態度は、それに劣らず野蛮です。

　お二人がこの道に導かれたのは決して偶然ではありません。霊的熟達の極印は哀れみの情にあるからです。哀れみのないところに霊的進化はありません。すべての存在、すべての動物、あらゆる生物、地上に存在する霊的顕現のすべてに対して哀れみの情を向けなくてはいけません。

進化の道を少し先まで進んだ者は、共有している世界の不可欠の存在であるすべての人間、すべての生物に対して責任があることを自覚するものです。

　抵抗する勢力がいかに強かろうと、障害や困難が見た目にいかに大きかろうと、善いことのために払われた犠牲はけっして無駄にはなりません。今たずさわっておられる闘いは最後には必ずや勝利をおさめます。なぜなら、最後には真実が勝利をおさめるからです。

これからたどられる道もけっして容易ではありません。しかし先駆者たる者、大胆不敵な魂は、気楽な生活を期待したり蓮の台（ｳﾃﾅ）の生活を夢見たりするようなことがあってはなりません。魂が偉大であるほど、要請される仕事も大きなものとなるものです。

　申し上げるまでもないことと思いますが、地上であなた方とともにこの道にたずさわっている同志のほかに、私たちの世界でもあなた方に協力せんとして、霊の大軍が控えております。その先頭に立って指揮しているのが地上でアッシジの聖フランチェスコと呼ばれていた人物です。地上時代にもこの悪弊の改善運動に全身全霊を捧げ、今また霊界からたずさわっているパイオニアには長い長い系譜があるのです。

　時として味方であるべき人物が敵にまわることがあります。また時として、悲しいことですが、この道にたずさわっている人が本来の目的を忘れて我欲を優先させ、一身上の都合の方が大義より大切であると考えるようになったりします。万が一そういう事態になった時は、それは本来の道を見失ったわけですから、その人のために蔭で涙を流しておやりなさい。

　私たちから要求することは、あなた方に啓示された光明にひたすら忠実であってくださる───それだけです。自分を役立てるという目的にひたむきでありさえすれば───これ以上の崇高な宗教はないのです───自動的に莫大な霊の力を呼び寄せ、それが数々の障害を取り除き、神の慈愛あふれる意志が地上に顕現されることになるでしょう。

　生命はその全側面において互いに混じり合い依存し合っております。そこに一種の親族関係ともいうべき密接なつながりがあります。生命は無限ですから、その顕現もまた無限の形態をとっております。どの部分も他と切り離されて存在することはできません。

　動物の中には人間との接触を通じて、人間とよく似た個的意識が芽生えているものがいます。もとより人間が動物に個別性を賦与するわけではありません。それは出来ませんが、潜在しているものを加速させることはできます。

それは皆さんが精神統一その他の修行によって内部の霊的能力を開発するのと同じです。感性を具えた存在に永遠の資質を賦与することができるのは宇宙の大霊すなわち神のみです。

　動物の魂も本質においては人間の魂とまったく同じです。双方とも同じ神から出ているのです。違うのは質ではなく程度です。動物と人間とでは発達の法則が同一方向ではあっても別々になっております。地上に生をうけた目的を果たして霊界入りし、他界直後の余波がおさまると、両者は別れ別れになります。

　このように、両者はそれぞれに果たすべき役割があります。人間は地上での人物像、つまり肉体器官を通じての魂の部分的表現が次第に消え、反対に霊的本性が開発され、潜在する完全性がより大きな発現の機会を得ます。

永遠の時をへて成就される完全性へ向けて向上するにつれてパーソナリティが減り、インディビジュアリティが増えていきます（92頁参照）。また動物は人間との愛の絆があるかぎり、目的を果たすまで人間とのつながりを維持します。

　すべての〝種〟に地上界と霊界とで果たすべき役割があります。何の原因もなしに、つまり偶然に存在するものは一つもありません。神の完全なる構想によって、あらゆる創造物、あらゆる生命がそれなりの貢献をするようになっているのです。

用もない種が地上に発生したために絶滅させなければならなくなったなどということは絶対にありません。人間が地上で最大の破壊的動物であってはならない理由はそこにあります。

　野性動物と人間との共存共栄が次第に当たりまえのこととなりつつあります。それは人間の動物への愛が大きくなって恐怖の壁が崩されつつある証拠です。人間がもしもこれまでのように動物を屠殺したり狩猟をしたり威嚇したりすることがなかったら、動物の側に恐怖心というものはおきなかったはずです。

進化の促進のために人間とのつながりを求める動物もいるのです。身体機能上の進化ではなくて心霊的進化です。

　しかし進化とは一直線に進むものでないことを忘れてはなりません。上昇と下降とがあります。スパイラルに進行します。感激的な絶頂にまで上がる時があるかと思えば、悪魔に呪われたようなドン底へ落ちる時もあります。そうした中にも計画は着実に進展し、進化が成就されていくのです。

　愛が愛としての本来の威力を発揮するようになれば、すべての創造物が仲良く暮らせるようになります。地球という生活環境を毒し問題を発生させる不協和音と混沌のタネを蒔くのは、人間という破壊主義者、人間という殺し屋です。すべての問題は人間がこしらえているのです。

神が悪いのではありません。動物が悪いのでもありません。人間が自由意志の行使を誤り、（万物の霊長だなどと）勝手に優越性を誇ったためです」

Also, when you awaken to one spiritual knowledge, you also awaken to another significance of that knowledge. That is also the time when the soul has begun to walk the path to true freedom.


Animals and humans have no choice but to part with each other at some stage of evolution. It may be tens of thousands of years on earth, but the speed of spiritual evolution differs between animals and humans. Animals are left behind because they cannot keep up with the ever-growing human soul in search of greater light.


Once you have passed through the veil of matter and entered the spirit world and become accustomed to the spiritual living environment, that is, when you realize that the bond that bound you to the earth has broken, you develop a desire to progress, a divinity that swirls inside. The desire to try is accelerated. Whenever and wherever I am, I will try to develop qualities that will enable me to be more useful depending on my training.


The higher you rise in the field of spiritual development, the more animals can't keep up. And the love that continued to burn the flames even after death gradually began to decline. Eventually, the flames begin to flicker and eventually merge into the souls of the same race.

Animal cruelty is a major stigma and evil humiliation for what humans pretend to call "civilization".


Westerners call us Red Indians barbarians, but humans so far have been looted and afflicted by humans while following the same evolutionary path, given life by the same spirits as humans. The attitude is no less barbaric.

Life is mixed and dependent on each other in all aspects. There is a close connection that can be called a kind of kinship. Since life is infinite, its manifestation also takes an infinite form. No part can exist separately from the others.


Some animals have a personal consciousness similar to that of humans through contact with humans. Of course, humans do not give animals individuality. You can't do that, but you can accelerate what's latent.


It is the same as you develop your inner spiritual abilities through spiritual unity and other practices. Only the ghost of the universe, or God, can confer eternal qualities on a sensible being.
