　私たちの日常生活とあなた方の日常生活とを比較して見られれば、結局はどちらも学校で勉強しているようなものであること、実に大きな学校でたくさんのクラスがあり、大勢の先生がおられること、しかし教育方針は一貫しており、単純なことから複雑なことへと進むようになっていること、そして複雑ということは混乱を意味するのではなく、

宇宙の創造主たる神を知れば知るほどその知る喜びによって一層神への敬虔なる忠誠心を抱くように全てがうまく出来上っていることを悟るようになります。

　そこで今日も従来からのテーマを取り上げて、こちらの世界で私たちが日頃どんなことをして過ごしているのか、神の愛がどのように私たちを包み、謙虚さと愛を身につけるにつれて事物がますます明快に理解されていくかを明らかにしてみましょう。


　こちらの事情で大切なことの一つに叡智と愛のバランスが取れていないといけないことが挙げられます。両者は実は別個のものではなく、一つの大きな原理の二つの側面を表わしているのです。

言わば樹木と葉との関係と同じで、愛が働き叡智が呼吸しておれば健全な果実が実ります。解りやすく説明するために、私たちが自分自身のこと、および私たちが指導することを許された人々の世話をする中でどういう具合にその愛と叡智を摂り入れて行くか、一つの具体例をあげてみましょう。


　つい先頃のことですが、私たちは一つの課題を与えられ、そのことで私たち五人で遠く離れたところにある地域（ｺﾛﾆｰ）を訪れることになりました。目的は神の愛の存在について疑念を抱き、あるいは当惑している地上の人間に対して取るべき最良の手段を教わることでした。

と言うのも、そうしたケースを扱う上でしばしば私たちの経験不足が障害となっていましたし、又あなたも御存知の通り地上にはそういう人が多いのです。

　そこにあるカレッジの校長先生は地上では才能豊かな政治家だった方ですが、その才能が地上ではあまり発揮されず、こちらへ来て初めて存分に発揮できるようになり、結局地球だけが鍛錬の成果が発揮される場でないことを身を持って理解されたわけです。

　訪問の目的を述べますと、その高い役職にも拘わらず、少しも偉（えらぶ）らず、極めて丁重で親切に応対されました。あなた達なら多分天使と呼びたくなるだろうと思われるほど高貴な方で、もしもそのお姿で地上に降りたら人間はその輝きに圧倒されることでしょう。

容姿もお顔も本当に美しい方で、それを形容する言葉としては、さしずめ〝燦然たる光輝に燃え立つような〟というところでしょう。親身な態度で私たちの話に耳を傾けられ、時折静かな口調で〝それで？〟と言って話を促され、私たちはついその方の霊格の高さも忘れて、恐れも遠慮もなく話しました。するとこうおっしゃいました。

　「生徒の皆さん──ここにいる間は生徒ということにしましよう──お話は興味深く拝聴いたしました。と同時に、そういうお仕事によくある問題でもあります。さて、そうした問題を私が今あっさりと解決してあげれば、皆さんは心も軽くお仕事に戻ることが出来るでしょう。が、イザ仕事に携わってみると又アレコレと問題が生じます。

　私たちは先生の後について敷地内を歩いて行きました。庭では庭師が花や果実の木の剪定などの仕事に専念しておりました。小道を右に左に曲がりながら各種の植え込みの中を通り抜けました。小鳥や可愛い動物がそこここに姿を見せます。やがて小川に出ました。そしてすぐ側にエジプト寺院のミニチュアのような石の東屋があり、私たちはその中に案内されました。

天井は色とりどりの花で出来た棚になっており、その下の一つのベンチに腰掛けると、先生も私たちのベンチと直角に置いてあるベンチに腰を下ろされました。


　床を見ると何やら図面のようなものが刻み込まれております。先生はそれを指さしてこうおっしゃいました。

　「さて、これが今私があなた方を案内して回った建物と敷地の図面です。この印のところが今いる場所です。ご覧の通り最初に皆さんとお会いした門からここまで相当の距離があります。
