訳者あとがき

　第一巻はオーエン氏の実の母親からの通信が大半を占めた。その親子関係が醸（かも）し出す雰囲気には情緒性があり、どこかほのぼのとしたものを感じさせたが、この第二巻は一転して威厳に満ちた重厚さを漂わせている。

文章も古い文語体で書かれ、用語も今日では〝古語〟または〝廃語〟となっているものが数多く見受けられる。

が、同時に読者はその重厚な雰囲気の中にもどこかオーエン氏に対する温かい情愛のようなものが漂っていることに気づかれたであろう。最後のメッセージにそれがとくに顕著に出ている。もしそれが読み取っていただけたら、私の文章上の工夫が一応成功したことになって有難いのであるが･･･

実は私は頭初より本書を如何なる文体に訳すかで苦心した。原典の古い文体をそのまま日本の古文に置き換えれば現代人にはほとんど読めなくなる。それでは訳者の自己満足だけで終わってしまう。

そこで、語っているのがオーエン氏の守護霊である点に主眼点を置き、厳しさの中にも情愛を込めた滋味を出すことを試みた。それがどこまで成功したかは別問題であるが･･･

　さて、その〝厳しさの中の情愛〟は守護霊と人間との関係から出る絶対的なもので、第一巻が肉体的ないし血族的親子関係であれば、これは霊的ないし類魂的親子関係であり、前者がいずれは消滅していく運命にあるのに対し、後者は永遠不滅であり、むしろ死後においてますます深まっていくものである。

ついでに一言述べておきたいことがある。守護霊という用語は英語でも　Guardian（ｶﾞｰﾃﾞィｱﾝ） と言い、ともに〝守る〟という意味が込められている。

そのためか、世間では守護霊とは何かにつけて守ってくれる霊という印象を抱き、不幸や苦労まで取り除いてくれることを期待する風潮があるが、これは過りである。

守護霊の仕事はあくまでも本人に使命を完うさせ宿命を成就させるよう導く事であり、時には敢えて苦しみを背負わせ悲劇に巻き込ませることまでする。そうした時、守護霊は袖手（しゆうしゆ）傍観しているのではなく、ともに苦しみともに悲しみつつ、しかも宿命の成就のために霊的に精神的に援護してやらねばならない。

そうした厳粛な責務を持たされているのであり、その成果如何によって守護霊としての評価が下されるのである。

そのことは本文の〝七つの教会〟の話からも窺われるし、シルバーバーチの霊訓が〝苦難の哲学〟を説くのもそこに根拠がある。

　守護霊にはその守護霊がおり、その守護霊にもまた守護霊がいて、その関係は連綿として最後には守護神に辿り着く。それが類魂の中の一系列を構成し、そうした系列の集合体が類魂集団を構成する。言ってみれば太陽系が集まって星雲を構成するのと同一である。

　その無数の類魂の中でも一ばん鈍重な形体の中での生活を余儀なくさせられているのが吾々人間であるが、それは決して哀れに思うべきことではない。

苦難と悲哀に満ちたこの世での体験はそれだけ類魂全体にとって掛けがえのないものであり、それだけ貴重なのであり、それ故人間は堂々と誇りをもって生きるべきである、というのが私の人生観である。

　ただし一つだけ注意しなければならないのは、この世には目には見えざる迷路があり、その至る所に見えざる誘惑者がたむろしていることである。大まじめに立派なことをしているつもりでいて、その実とんでもない邪霊に弄（もてあそ）ばれていることが如何に多いことか。

　では､そうならないためにはどうすべきか。それは私ごとき俗物の説くべきことではなかろう。読者みずから本書から読み取っていただきたい。それが本書の価値の全てとは言えないにしても、それを読み取らなければ本書の価値は失われるのではなかろうか。

The first volume was mostly communication from Mr. Owen's real mother. The atmosphere created by the parent-child relationship is emotional and makes me feel something warm, but this second volume has a dignified and profound feeling.


Sentences are also written in old literary style, and many terms are nowadays "old words" or "abandoned words".


But at the same time, the reader would have noticed that there was something like a warm affection for Mr. Owen in that profound atmosphere. That is especially noticeable in the last message. If you can read it, I would be grateful that my ingenuity in writing was successful.


Actually, from the beginning, I struggled with what style to translate this book into. If the old writing style of the original text is replaced with the old Japanese writing as it is, it will be almost unreadable by modern people. Then, it ends only with the complacency of the translator.


Therefore, I focused on the fact that Mr. Owen's guardian spirit was talking about, and tried to bring out the savory taste with affection even in the harshness. How successful it is is another matter ...


By the way, the "love in the harshness" is an absolute thing that comes out of the relationship between the guardian spirit and human beings, and if the first volume is a physical or consanguineous parent-child relationship, this is spiritual or soulful. It is a parent-child relationship, and while the former is destined to disappear eventually, the latter is eternally immortal, and rather deepens after death.


Incidentally, I would like to say a few words. The term "guardian spirit" is also called "Guardian" in English, and both have the meaning of "protecting".


Perhaps because of this, there is a tendency in the world to have the impression that a guardian spirit is a spirit that protects what it is, and expects it to remove misfortunes and hardships, but this is a mistake.


The job of the guardian spirit is to guide the person to complete his mission and fulfill his destiny, and sometimes he dares to carry suffering and get involved in tragedy. At that time, the guardian spirit must not be on the sidelines, but must both suffer and be sad, and must be spiritually and spiritually supported to fulfill his destiny.


They have such a solemn responsibility, and depending on their achievements, they are evaluated as guardian spirits.


This can be seen from the story of the "Seven Churches" in the text, and there is also a basis for the spiritual lessons of Silver Birch to preach the "philosophy of hardship".


The guardian spirit has that guardian spirit, and that guardian spirit also has a guardian spirit, and the relationship ends up reaching the guardian deity. It constitutes one series in the souls, and the aggregate of such series constitutes the soul group. So to speak, it is the same as the solar system gathering to form a nebula.


It is human beings who are forced to live in the dull form of the innumerable souls, but that should not be pitiful.


My view of life is that the experience of this world full of hardships and sorrows is so irreplaceable to the whole soul and so precious that human beings should live proudly and proudly. Is.


However, one thing to be aware of is that there are invisible mazes in this world, and invisible tempted people hang out everywhere. How often do you think you're doing something serious and good, and you're being tossed by the ridiculous evil spirits?


Then, what should we do to prevent this from happening? It shouldn't be a profane thing like me. I would like the readers to read this book by themselves. If that is not all the value of this book, but if you do not read it, the value of this book will be lost.
